M 42 now available as 5-arm boom
Still in October, Putzmeister AG will
start delivery of their M 42 as a 5-arm boom to
the customers. This compact concrete pump with
five flexible and short boom segments has been
introduced just recently to several customers
from Europe. The response has been very
positive.

Compact design and short boom segments are
characteristical for the new Putzmeister “Roll-Z”-folder
M 42-5.
The “Little One” in the 40-Meter-class shows
its real size and flexibility where it counts
most: on the construction site. Especially if
only little space is available for set-up and
operation.
This new M 42 5-arm is added by Putzmeister
to the very successful M 42 4-arm model. That
one has been introduced in 1997 and will remain
in the program. To take the step from the 4-arm
to the 5-arm, one additional joint is needed in
the boom, which results in increased weight.
Insofar it is surprising, that Putzmeister was
able to keep the machines’ total weight well
below 33 tons. The new 5-arm will complete the
range of “Roll-Z”-folders in the 40-meter class.
As already introduced with the M 46 and M 47,
the new M 42-5 is also conceived as a flexible “Roll-Z”-fold
boom. The additional arm allows for higher
flexibility when it comes to concrete placement
in higher floors. The unfolding-height of this
boom is only 8.6 meters. Especially practical
for congested construction sites is the small
outrigger footprint of 7.9 meters, both in front
and rear. In OSS-mode, this can even be reduced
to 5.1 meters (front) and 5.8 meters (rear).

Large working range, maximum flexibility and
mininmal support width are typical advantages of
the new truck mounted concrete pump M 42-5 with
“Roll-Z”-fold boom design.
The short overall length of just 11.6 meters
makes it easy to obtain road permissions,
especially in France and Switzerland, where
total length is limited to 12 meters. The short
wheel base of only 5.5 meters (first front to
first rear axle) is very useful when the machine
needs to reach construction sites in small
villages and narrow mountain streets. Also, the
short boom does not create any rear overhang, so
corners are not swept by the boom. Therefore
this machine will be of special interest for
concrete pump businesses in the Alps or other
mid-range mountain areas.
